The Campbell River Airport is situated at city’s south end. From Courtenay coming north, turn left at the light of Jubilee Parkway, the big sign of the airport is clearly visible. A group of men that met informally in 1954 established the Campbell River Airport. From this meet, they were able to discuss on how to establish the airport. They saw a potential growth on the economy of the Campbell River. Because of this vision, they arrive in creating a transportation hub that would support the potential growth.

Establishing the Campbell River Airport was not easily accomplished by the founders. It took them years to search for the perfect site of the airport. Apparently, when they found the perfect site, the initial estimation of costs and construction are something that should be raised. Everything turns out well for the founders because the contractor agreed to wait for the payment until the completion of the airport. The locals of the Campbell River area donated a municipal building for the establishment of the airport. This building was moved to the airport site. Though the building was too small, it still played a significant role in the beginning of the airport operations.

Officially in 1959, the Campbell River Airport was launched. The airport contributed a lot on the tourism industry of the area. It attracted many business investors, residents, and visitors. It continued to serve the industries of forestry and mining along with the locals.
